Romex® NMB Wire Information
Romex electrical wire is made with THHN wires and a bare copper ground wire. It has a PVC jacket made less expensive for indoor use only to cut costs for electrical contractors. I do not recommend even trying to use Romex® in conduit because there is moisture and the jacket cannot withstand it.
If you need a cable to go in conduit I recommend MC Cable which stands for Metal Clad. Our, in conduit, cable can be used in outdoors or for in conduit only. UFB is a very popular type of electrical cable because it isn't that much more expensive than Romex® and it can be used underground or stored anywhere.
Romex wire comes in 250' coils or 1000' spools from the manufacturer but we can cut the cable to length for you as a value added service. We cut all of our electrical wire to length for our customers because it cuts costs for each job by eliminating waste. We sell the Romex® cables in as small as 50' lengths and offer free shipping on orders over $250.00!
Romex® NMB is color coded by awg size so the electrical contractors can easily identify the size of the cable. Romex® 14/2 and 14/3 are both white, Romex® 12/2 and 12/3 are both yellow, the Romex® 10/2 and 10/3 are both orange and the Romex® 6/3 and 6/2 have the black jacket.
All of the UFB underground cables have a gray jacket because it's harder to make the tough rubber jacket in colors. UFB needs the though jacket to protect itself against the outdoor weather.
If you're looking for a different type of electrical wire just email us or give us a call so one of our sales people can find the correct cable for your application.
