Solid bare copper wire doesn't have any insulation and it's most commonly used as a ground wire. It comes in solid or stranded version but we usually only have the solid version in stock. If you need stranded then we can still get you a quote so please call us to request pricing.
You'll almost always find a bare copper ground wire in an electrical cable in addition to the amount of conductors the cable says it has. For example, a type MC cable 6 awg 4 conductor will have a 5th wire in it known as the solid bare copper ground wire. The only cable that can't protect the ground wire is Romex® because the jacket is only made to be used indoors. Moisture, gas, oil and solvents can damage the cable and the ground wire will be hit first.
