XHHW Aluminum Electrical Wire
XHHW Aluminum Wire or better known to its other name as XHHW-2 is suitable to use in wet and dry environments with temperature not exceeding 90°C. 600 volts is the voltage rating of XHHW-2 conductors. It is the better choice for contractors and installers and more and more people prefer XHHW-2 over other conductors. XHHW-2 conductors are mainly used for conduit or raceways for feeders, services, and branch circuit electrical wiring as specified in National Electrical Code.
The important things to remember about XHHW-2 are: it is an aluminum alloy conductor that has 600 volts, has cross-linked polyethylene or XLP insulation, sunlight resistant in larger capacity, and with high heat resistance and moisture resistance. These are very important characteristics of XHHW-2 that makes it the more preferred choice.
Contractors find it difficult before to think of a way to make the conductor they will install adaptable to any environment and that dilemma was solved with the introduction of XHHW-2. The wire can be used in any wet and dry places without causing any problems just as long as it is within 90°C and must not exceed beyond that range of temperature to avoid complications and voltage capacity of 600 volts. It is also suitable for anesthetizing spots in accordance with NEC's 517.160 article where the required dielectric constant of 3.5 or lesser is satisfied.
The XHHW-2 meets or exceeds the National Electrical Code requirements, UL standard 44, and the Federal Specifications A-A-59544 which are needed to ensure safety in all wire installations. The XHHW-2 also meets and exceeds all ICEA S-95-658 or NEMA WC 70 Non shielded 0-2 kV cables construction requirements together with UL requirements based testing frequencies.
XHHW aluminum wires or conductors are TM AA-8000 series alloy of aluminum that is compact stranded. Insulation is an abrasion, heat and moisture resistant polyethylene of black cross-linked. The wire can provide a worry-free assurance because it can withstand any type of environment and looking at the abrupt climate changes that can affect the environment; you will be more than glad that you have the XHHW-2 wire that can adapt well in any kind of environment making your installation almost invincible against wet or dry conditions.
The XHHW aluminum electrical wire may be more costly than the other wire of its category but most contractors and installers prefer them because of the high level of safety and efficiency they can give. No other wire can provide for the needed safety like the XHHW-2 can give. Home owners prefer them even if it would mean paying higher just to have the wires in their homes; home makers know that safety should come first before anything else. A home that is not safe is not suitable to live in and in the long run, it will fail to provide proper shelter for the family. Businessmen also prefer XHHW-2 over anything else because it can definitely bring more profit to business in the long run knowing that the place of work is safe and secure. Measures for safety, however, must still be practiced at all times for precautionary reasons.
